Your Skipper / Coaches

Your charter will have a skipper who will lead discussions, drive consensus and make final decisions on safety related issues.  Your skipper will also be your coach, helping you to practice and improve skills that you already have.  Ed and David are the owners of Burwell Global, and have been taking Caribbean and Bahamas charters together for almost 20 years.

Cap'n Ed

Ed has been sailing since the late 1970s and is an ASA certified sailing instructor since 1996, teaching at Lanier Sailing Academy on Lake Lanier.  He was in the LSA Passport Club for 10 years before buying a Hunter 340 sailboat  to use on the Lake.  After getting a taste of the charter experience in the British Virgin Islands as part of his advanced sailing education, he and his family have become avid sailors with trips to the BVIs, the Windward Islands, the islands off Belize and both the Abacos and the Exumas chains in the Bahamas, with friends and family.

Notable longer trips Ed has made include 10 days in the Windward Islands from Martinique to Grenada and helping friends move their boats long distances off the US East Coast on a Catalina 350, a Bristol 41.1, and a Cheoy Lee 42 schooner offshore.  His charters have been on both monohulls and catamarans.  He is a licensed captain by the USCG (OUPV Near Coastal rating), as well as having a private pilot license (ASEL not current) and diver certificate (PADI open water diver).

Ed is retired after 31 years at IBM in sales and consulting services, and 8 years before that as a design engineer in the aerospace industry.

Cap'n David

David's boating experience began over 20 years ago with the purchase of a personal watercraft that he kept well maintained for 18 years prior to retiring it.  He also purchased and maintained a 30ft Doral twin-screw cruising yacht that he used on Lake Lanier  Currently he skippers a 22-foot powered runabout on the lake.  His ocean experience includes charters with Cap'n Ed in the Grenadines, the Abacos, the Exumas, the BVIs and other exotic destinations, as well as skippering  trips on 51 foot power catamarans.

When David is not planning his next tropical charter, he is an avid investment fiduciary for his clients.  He has over 20 years of experience in the investment industry.  David began his career in Financial Services in 2001 with Merrill Lynch where he became a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor.  He is also now an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®.  Over 10 years ago David and his partner left Merrill Lynch and started First Harbor Financial Services where David is President.

David also has a passion for fitness, golf, and tennis. When he isn't researching investment ideas, he is very involved in education, both at this alma mater, Clemson University, and locally at his son’s school.  David serves on the Alumni Advisory Board at Clemson and mentors’ students in Clemson’s formal Tiger Ties Mentoring program.
